City of Portsmouth closes municipal offices to observe Election Day holiday

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The City of Portsmouth will close the municipal offices on November 3 in observance in observance of the Election Day holiday.

City offices, libraries, museums, and recreation centers are already currently closed to the public due to the impacts of COVID-19.

There will be no trash, bulk, or recycling collections on Tuesday, November 3. All Tuesday routes will be collected on Wednesday, November 4.

Curbside library service will be closed for Election Day as well. Please call 393-8501 for more information.

Election Day is now a state holiday in Virginia after the General Assembly passed SB601 and it was signed into law by Gov. Ralph Northam. State employees can take the day off to vote, but not all municipalities are on board.
