Applicants wanted for Portsmouth Police Department's new Community Advisory Committee

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Portsmouth residents, are you interested in helping police create more transparency between the department and the community?

The Portsmouth Police Department is looking for a diverse group of civic-minded individuals to join its new Community Advisory Committee.

Applicants will be expected to review the department's policies, procedures and programs pertaining to community issues. This committee will be committed to having candid and open discussions regarding police trends, be a link of communication between the department and the local community and advocate for PPD policies, programs and citizen-police interactions.

Applicants must either rent or own a home in Portsmouth or own and/or operate a business within city limits. Anyone looking to fill a seat on the committee must be at least 18 years old.

Portsmouth Police are also encouraging civic, community and faith-based leaders to apply, as well as media and business representatives.

Committee members will initially serve either a one- or two-year term.

Applications must be turned in to the Office of the Chief of Police, located at 206 High Street Portsmouth, Va. 23704, or emailed to ppdpio@portsmouthva.gov

The cut off for submission is August 1.
