NORFOLK, Va. -- Brian Titlow drove past Leo Street on Sunday and witnessed the scene where a car overturned on its roof. Norfolk Police saida 15-year-old girl was inside that overturned car.
"I was like, 'Dang, what's going on here?'” Titlow said. "That's when I saw the car was flipped up; it had all the police up, and I was just dropping him off just now and that's when he told me a young girl had died."
Police said the girl was rushed to the hospital, where she died because of her injuries.
"It was upside down right over here, right where you guys are standing,” Titlow explained. "It's only 25 miles an hour here, so you wouldn't see a car flipped over driving that slow."
Remnants of the crash are still visible. Shards of plastic and glass can be seen on the pavement.
Tire marks that lead onto a grass patch are also visible. There is a mound of penetrated dirt with more shards of glass. Pictures showed that was where the car was flipped over.
Police said someone driving a Mercedes ran the stop sign and hit the other car. The driver and passengers of the Mercedes fled before police arrived.
"It's always sad when a young person loses their life so young,” Titlow said. “That ain't nothing to joke around with."
Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward by calling the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP (1-888-562-5887).
