NORFOLK, Va. - If you're looking for a new job in 2021, it's always good to know what's out there.

The move to remote working in response to the COVID-19 pandemic is broadening options, according to recruiting company Robert Half.

Savanah Crawford, Branch Manager for Robert Half's Norfolk office tells News 3 employers and employees should keep an open mind.

"We've seen opportunities for candidates who live here in the Hampton Roads area to work remotely for a company that's not in this area," said Crawford.

As for which jobs are 'hot' in 2021, Crawford says she's seeing a noticeable uptick in finance and administrative jobs.

"Payroll professionals going into this year, loan and mortgage administrators and then just your core staff and senior accountants," she said. "On the administrative side, a huge uptick for the most part in your call center and customer service representatives."

Regardless of the type of job you're looking for, Crawford says it's important to be prepared.

Keep your resume updated and she suggests creating a profile on networking website LinkedIn. And be prepared for a video interview, now considered part of the hiring process for employers.

"Making sure you're comfortable with the technology, the lighting, the wi-fi connection, all of those things. Most likely, it's going to be part of your interview process once you do get an interview in your job search," she said.

If you're unsure of where to start, getting in-touch with a recruiter like Robert Half has its benefits.

"A lot of times recruiters or staffing professionals really know of new opportunities in the area before they're even advertised," said Crawford.

Bottom line, it's always best to be prepared and approach your job search with an open mind.
