NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - If you live on the Peninsula and still need to get your flu shot, you'll soon get the opportunity to do so.
The Peninsula Health District is offering a free flu clinic at the Regional Animal Shelter located at 5843 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday, October 24.
Health officials say the flu vaccine is safe for children six months and older and all adults.
COVID-19 screening will be performed before anyone receives their flu shot. A mask or face covering is required.

Anyone experiencing the following symptoms will not receive a flu vaccination:
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Chills
- Muscle pain
- Loss of taste or smell
- Shortness of breath
- Difficulty breathing
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Congestion/runny nose
- Nausea/vomiting
- Diarrhea
People who are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test, have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have not yet cleared to discontinue isolation or who have had close contact with anyone confirmed with the virus will not receive a flu vaccination until they are cleared by a physician.
Lyft is offering ride credits for people traveling to get a flu shot. Virginians can use the code VAFIGHTSFLU for rides to and from vaccination sites, including this event. Ride credits will be available until Dec. 31, 2020.
