NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - You've got a turkey to cook, potatoes to mash, rolls to bake...and it all has to come out together, hot and ready.

Cooking a complex Thanksgiving dinner isn't for everybody. Some local restaurants understand that and are ready to do the job for you!

Smoke BBQ on Warwick Blvd. in Newport News has been serving smoked whole turkeys and all the fixings each holiday season for years now.

"Just fill out what you want and come pick it up," said Forrest Warren, Chef at Smoke BBQ. "We've been taking turkey orders for probably three weeks now."

The deadline to order one for Thanksgiving is 2 p.m. on Tuesday, but Warren tells News 3 he will continue to sell turkeys for the next month or so.

Sales have been going well, he says -- about 200 turkeys gone so far -- and it couldn't come at a better time.

"A big part of our business is catering and we can't have those groups gather anymore right now. We're really taking a hit in that department," said Warren, in reference to restrictions brought back in Virginia in a response to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases; lowering gathering limits from 250 to just 25 people.

Still, Warren says he considers himself lucky to still be working, and through his turkeys, making a difference in countless family Thanksgivings during a year that's been tough on everyone.

"That's what everybody's looking at. That's what everybody's eating. Besides the family, that's the most important thing that day. That weighs heavily on us. I don't take that lightly," he said.

Whole smoked turkeys at Smoke BBQ are $60 for 10-14 lbs and $150 for 20-24 lbs.
