NORFOLK, Va. — It's as if the heavens open when you hear the Virginia Chorale.
"The Virginia Chorale has been around for 42 years and is the premier professional chorus in the Commonwealth of Virginia," said Artistic Director Chuck Woodward.
I sat down with Woodward before a recent rehearsal.
"We do 400 years of repertoire, from the Renaissance to the most contemporary music," said Woodward.
In fact, the chorus will perform a contemporary piece, "Poor Hymnal," written in 2023 by David Lang.
"He said, 'What if there was a group whose sole purpose was compassion, charity, feeding the hungry, welcoming a stranger?'" Woodward recalled.
The piece will be performed June 7 to benefit the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
"We're coming around to this idea that we can help one another, give to one another and still have enough for ourselves," said soprano Elise Ramos Krepcho.
If you'd like to experience the Virginia Chorale for yourself and help neighbors in our community, find ticket information at wtkr.com.
The heavenly music of the Virginia Chorale will lift your spirits, and they are "Positively Hampton Roads."
