This was the latest phase of what VSP is calling Operation DISS-RUPT. Troopers were looking for drivers distracted, impaired, speeding, or not wearing their seatbelt.
According to VSP, as of August 21 preliminary data showed there had been 17 fatal crashes on I-64 as of August 21.

“We do this on a rotational basis. So, we alternate between interstates," said VSP trooper Destiny Robinson. "It’s important because we just want to educate the community and everything like that and tell them how important this is."
The goal of Operation DISS-RUPT was to have zero fatal crashes during the two days and to reduce the number of fatal crashes for 2026 overall by 10 percent.
