CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Sabrina Davis has dedicated her life to helping her neighbors in need through her nonprofit, RESET, Inc.
"We are making a difference and impacting the lives of those who need us the most," said Davis during an interview with me this month.
Davis founded RESET, Inc. in 2023. Since then, she has helped get thousands of meals to neighbors across Hampton Roads. Additionally, she provides access to free food 24/7 outside of RESET, Inc.'s building at 1109 South Military Highway in Chesapeake.
"It's a walk-up. So that means at any hour of the day, if your stomach is growling, you can walk up and get food," Davis said.
RESET, Inc. partners with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore and Operation Blessing. In addition to free food, Davis' nonprofit provides clothing to hundreds of children each year, and additional resources like diapers and access to the internet. There's also a community market that accepts SNAP benefits. The proceeds go right back into the nonprofit so they can provide access to free food, no matter the time of day.
"It's been such a blessing to me because there's a lot of things that I can't eat and I don't have the money. And I can come here and get what I need. And so I really, really appreciate it. It's been a big blessing for me," said Denise [last name], a community member who uses the pantry.
That type of impact is why I surprised Davis with a News 3 Everyday Hero award, and a $300 gift card from our community partner, Southern Bank.
"Thank you so much!" Davis exclaimed. "To those in the community that support us, we really appreciate you!"
"My sister Sabrina, she's so selfless, and she works hard," said Victoria Davis, Sabrina's sister, who nominated her for the award.
"She was raised to give, and she's an adult now, and she continues to give even as an adult," said Davis' mother, Alice Davis.
Suzy Phillips, who also nominated Davis, said she wanted to recognize her vision.
"All the people that need help in so many different ways, [...] she has tried to meet that need. I'm just very impressed," Phillips said.
Michelle Green, who has used RESET Inc.'s services, shared her story.
"I was homeless and I needed food. So when my brother introduced me to her, I was like, oh, this is the right place. Just seeing the need that there is a need and how much effort and she puts her all into it. Seven days a week we're here," Green said.
