HAMPTON ROADS, VA—Heart attacks and cardiac deaths significantly increase during the Christmas and New Year's holiday period, especially from late December into early January, with more deaths occurring on Christmas Day than on any other day. The American Heart Association says stress, dietary and alcohol changes, and cold weather are all contributing factors.
