NORFOLK, VA (WTKR)- Boxing is returning to Hampton Roads with 757 Knockout Night on April 4 at Chartway Arena.
The event will feature fighters from the seven cities and Richmond, with brothers Kelvin and Keon Davis taking center stage. The countdown to fight night began Thursday with the kickoff press conference.
"It's a dream come true, honestly," said Kelvin. "It's kind of almost too good to be true, you know what I'm saying? April 4, it's going down. We've got our opponents, the card is set."
"It lifts me up so much," Keon added. "I don't want to fight nowhere else. I want to fight in Norfolk every time. I've fought at Madison Square Garden. I don't want to fight there. I want to fight in Norfolk."
The Davis brothers, collectively known as DB3, are doing more than lacing up the gloves. They're putting on their promotion hats as well. Keyshawn Davis (14-0, 10 KO), fresh off his January 31 knockout of Jamaine Ortiz, will join his siblings and their team behind the scenes as DB3 Promotions puts on its debut event. Being their own promoters allows them to schedule their own fights and set up cards. The brothers say that Keon (4-0, 3 KO), the youngest of the three, spearheaded the project.
"I'm like 'Keon, you have great ideas, just do it! Don't ask me for nothing, don't ask nobody for nothing, just do it!' This is the first thing he actually did," smiled Keyshawn. "I'm so proud of Keon, just kicking down the door so me and Kelvin, his big brothers, can just walk through."
Kelvin (15-1, 8 KO), the oldest of the trio, will headline the card in the main event. After suffering his first professional loss last June, he's picked himself back up and is itching to get back into the ring and return to the win column.
"To actually take a loss in my career kind of really affected my pride," he pointed out. "This is real personal for me to get back into that win column and show the boxing game who I am."
"Seeing him coming back is definitely amazing," added Keyshawn. "When he posts on his Instagram and I'm seeing him train, it really just makes me smile because I know where he's coming from, I know where he came from and I know where he's about to go to."
April 4 will see Kelvin and Keon Davis climb back inside the ropes, while Keyshawn and their hometown cheer them on from ringside. It's a night to shine the bright lights on their city and get back to celebrating.
"I'm going to have fun for sure and I'm going to bring somebody exciting to put smiles on everybody's faces," Keon said. "I just want to have a good time myself, too."
"Every time we've fought in the city, the city came out to support," noted Kelvin. "I'm pretty sure it's going to be loud in there and it's going to hype me up just seeing the whole crowd."
Tickets for 757 Knockout Night went on sale Thursday evening. DB3 says it plans to announce opponents next week.
