CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Two suspects in an armed carjacking were arrested late Sunday night after leading police on a chase from Virginia Beach into Chesapeake, Virginia Beach Police said.

Ronnie Jamijah Futrell, 21, and Dawan Jaquez Harris, 32, both from Aulander, N.C., are facing multiple charges.

After the stolen vehicle was reported just before 11:30 p.m., a VBPD officer tried to stop the car on I-264, but the suspects fled and continued onto eastbound I-64 into Chesapeake, where they crashed at exit 291B.

The VBPD officer followed and fired their weapon at the suspects, though the suspects were not hit. A VBPD K9 unit located them and helped taken them into custody.

Futrell and Harris were both charged with the following counts:

  • Armed robbery (x2)
  • Carjacking (x2)
  • Use of a firearm in commission of a felony (x4)
  • Conspiracy to commit robbery
  • Possession of a firearm by a violent felon

Virginia State Police will investigate the shooting by the officer.

“This successful apprehension is attributed to the excellent police work of the VBPD and the multi-agency support,” said Chief Paul W. Neudigate. “Swift action ensured these dangerous individuals will no longer threaten our community. Let me be clear, if you come here from another jurisdiction to commit violent crimes, we will find you, chase you, and hold you accountable."

Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that suspects fired at police. Police have clarified that they fired shots at the suspects.
