TABB, Va. — A Tabb High School teacher was charged with public intoxication while on school grounds, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office.
On Monday, the School Resource Officer was told that an employee was possibly drunk while working inside the school, according to YPSO. The SRO talked the employee, 46-year-old Jeremy Venske, and determined he was intoxicated.
Venske, from Newport News, was charged with being drunk in public, according to YPSO. In a statement sent to News 3, York County School Divison confirmed that Venske had been the NJROTC Instructor since April.
"We are appreciative of the staff members who recognized a potential concern and reported it immediately to school administrators this morning," a YCSD spokesperson told News 3. "Their awareness and prompt action allowed school and law enforcement personnel to respond quickly and appropriately. During the response, the school initiated a brief hold lasting approximately 5–10 minutes while deputies addressed the situation."
