NORFOLK, Va. — A 3-year-old is expected to survive after police say the child shot themselves at a home on Sheryl Drive on Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to the neighborhood near Wards Corner around 9:40 a.m., according to Norfolk police.

3-year-old shoots self

Police say they arrived to find the child with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound that was later determined to be self-inflicted and accidental.

The toddler was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Norfolk police. Police are still investigating the incident.
