NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News man has been charged with second-degree murder after police found a woman's body on Jefferson Avenue early Wednesday.
Police say the victim has been identified as 55-year-old Denna Marshay Williams of Newport News.
Officers were called around 3:10 a.m. to the 4500 block of Jefferson Avenue for a report of a person lying on the sidewalk.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
After what investigators described as a thorough, daylong effort, police arrested 63-year-old Andra Leman Austin.
Authorities did not immediately describe what led up to Williams' death.
