OUTER BANKS, N.C. — Part of a modular home has been blown off a trailer due to high winds on the Marc Basnight Bridge in the Outer Banks Monday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
High winds reaching 65 to 70 mph caused the mobile home to fall off its trailer, overturning onto the bridge's railing around 1:38 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol shared with News 3.
A commercial motor vehicle (CMV) was carrying the mobile home along N.C. 12 about half a mile north of the Oregon Inlet when high winds detached the mobile home from its trailer, highway patrol said
This incident led to the closure of the bridge, NCDOT said. As of 9:22 p.m., all lanes on the bridge have reopened.
Crews worked on removing the mobile home from the bridge, highway patrol said. As troopers cleared drivers from the bridge, the Dare County Sheriff's Office helped direct traffic.
Highway patrol stated recovery efforts were "difficult and dangerous" due to the high winds.
The mobile home was removed around 8 p.m., NCDOT said.
