NORFOLK, Va. — A man was shot by police on Sunday after refusing to comply with officers' demands to put his gun down, according to police.
Glendon Sumner, 38, of Norfolk is charged with reckless handling of a firearm and brandishing a firearm, police say.
Around 3:46 a.m., police arrived to an apartment complex in the 400 Block of Monticello Avenue after receiving reports of a man with a weapon. Police say they found Sumner with a gun near a courtyard.

Officers asked Sumner to put his gun down, he refused, then police shot him. He received non life-threatening injuries, and was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to police.
Police say no officers were injured during this incident. The officers involved will be placed on administrative duty until the investigation is completed.
During a press conference Monday, Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney Ramin Fatehi emphasized that this incident is unrelated to the other police shooting near Sewells Point Road, which happened two days prior.
On social media, Fatehi addressed these incidents, stating, "I will say generally that the combination of mental illness and the easy availability of guns inevitably leads to grief."
