Will Thomas joined the News 3 team as our Outer Banks reporter in July 2024.
Will’s interest in news began when he was young and wanted to be a play-by-play broadcaster. But in college, he enjoyed sharing people’s stories so much that he decided to go the news route.
After graduating from VCU in 2018, Will began his career at Wyoming News Now in Casper and Cheyenne. Will then made the jump back to his East Coast roots by becoming the nightside reporter at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Virginia.
The Outer Banks has always held a special place in Will’s heart, he was a surf rescue lifeguard in Duck, Southern Shores, and the National Park Service from 2013 to 2018. He is proud to be able to come back and report the news in a place that has always felt like home.
Will was born at Cherry Point, Marine Corps Air Station, and moved every two years until he was 17 while his father was a pilot in the Marine Corps. Will says he wouldn’t be the person he is today without the values that came with being in a military family.
Outside of work, Will has always enjoyed being in open water. That includes the ocean, rivers, or even the sound. Being out and about is how he spends the majority of his time, but also doesn’t mind a movie marathon on a night in.
Will would love to hear and share your stories, and if you see him out and about around the Outer Banks, please say hello! You can contact him at Wilbert.thomas@wtkr.com.
